Lesson Fees and Cancellations

  1/2 hour lesson-$25.00

45 min. lesson-$37.50

1 hour lesson-$50.00

Payment: Payment is by the term. There are 3 terms per academic year and students may either pay in on lump sum, or may provide post-dated cheques for the first of each month.

Canceled/rescheduled lessons

If 24 hours’ notice is given, canceled lessons will be made up at the end of term, during a regularly scheduled "make-up" week. Depending on the length of the term I allow 1-2 weeks for this.
If students miss more lessons than are covered by this make-up period, they may choose to come at another time during the week of the missed lesson or forfeit the lesson.

Other Policies

Practice: Students are required to practice at home for a minimum of 4 days per week, for at least 15 minutes or whatever amount is needed to show up prepared for the following lesson. Students who show up unprepared on a regular basis may have their lessons terminated.

The expectation is that material presented at one lesson can be easily, and fluently played at the next lesson.

Students who do not practice (and who regularly miss lessons) end up bored and frustrated with lack of progress and music lessons turn quickly into a negative experience.

Lesson rating: lessons will be rated from 1-10 each week. Rating is based on preparedness, attitude, cooperation, and attentiveness. 2 lessons that fall below a 6 will mean a discussion with the parents. If the situation does not improve, this will mean suspension or termination of lessons at the teacher’s discretion.

POSSIBLE GOALS

Sometimes it is enough just to play for yourself, but sometimes it's nice to have an audience. If you feel like you would like to set some goals for yourself, here are some suggestions.
Compete in the Kiwanis Music Festival
Prepare for an RCM exam
Put on a recital for friends and reletives.
Audition for your local youth orchestra
Get friends together and start a group and have regular rehearsals
